Scroll all the way down for some highlights from our anniversary session!
If you know me very well at all, you know that I hate surprises. Especially when I know they’re coming. I never know what level to set my expectations at so usually I get them up pretty high and then get disappointed. So when it came to my birthday, I started asking Luke what we were going to do, a few weeks before the actual day.
Luke kept reassuring me that it was fine and he had plans in place, but they were a surprise. A SURPRISE. “I don’t like surprises,” I reminded him. “You’re going to love what I have planned” he told me.
The week of my birthday began and he had only given me a few little hints as to what I should be expecting.
Wednesday his mom texted me “I’m picking you up in 45 minutes, want anything to eat or drink?” Birthday surprise #1. Her and Hannah, my sister-in-law, picked me up and took me to get a mani/pedi, in our own private room in the nail salon! I thought, surely that was the biggest surprise because we had so much fun!
Thursday (my actual birthday) came along and he sent me to get keratin treatment on my hair, something I’ve wanted since about 3rd grade! We went to lunch with my dad, and Luke told me we’d be going to Shogun in Pasadena that night, and I could get a dress for it if I wanted.
Knowing we were heading out to my favorite restaurant, I found a perfect dress to wear. We rushed home to get ready and we were on our way. Halfway there, Luke stopped and said we’d be making a detour. I had no idea where we were going!! Waze must’ve been on his side that day because it took us through all the backroads and I could not figure out our destination.
20 minutes pass. We pull up to the beautiful Arlington Gardens, a place I’ve been wanting to scout out for months. Unsuspecting and content, I get out of the car to take a stroll around this pretty little park. We walk part way through, and round a corner. As I turn to the right, there stands a photographer. With her camera pointed directly at us! For a moment I stood there so confused, until she moved the camera from her face and I saw my good friend Ely!
I literally cried because I’ve been wanting to take pictures with just Luke and I for so long. I was so surprised that he remembered and that he set this whole thing up without me knowing! We laughed and giggled through our whole anniversary session, and it was already the best birthday ever.
Through the rest of the weekend, Luke had a full plan to celebrate. I got to have dinner with my dad. We got to hang out with some good family friends. He set up a girls night in LA with some of my girl friends. It was all so special and I felt so loved.
If 25 is going to be anything like this birthday, I’m in for a great year.
