The Sand Dunes have always been on my bucket list, and I finally got to photograph there for Paul and Gina’s 10th anniversary! Paul and Gina are so special to me, so this shoot was straight out of a fairy tale.
Gina and I had taken the same photography training early on in our photography careers, and we organized a meet-up one day for photographers to get to know each other and update our headshots. It was basically love at first sight from there! We began photographing each other’s families each year, and began shooting weddings together. Before we knew it, we were basically inseparable in our photography careers!
This year, this sweet couple celebrates their ten-year wedding anniversary! When Gina and I began chatting about a session to celebrate, and she brought up the Glamis Sand Dunes, I was instantly in. I couldn’t wait to shoot it! We began planning and before we knew it, the time was here.
And then, there was an interesting twist. The whole way out, my stomach was in a weird amount of pain. I was basically hunched over for the 3 hour drive until we arrived! Thankfully, walking and shooting helped me to be distracted and I quickly moved on during the shoot.
As soon as we were back in the car, the pain came back (and it was so much worse!). Long story short, we rushed for 3 hours to get to the hospital, where we found out late that night that I had appendicitis and needed to have my appendix removed! It was such a crazy, unexpected thing. Thankfully, we had an incredible surgeon and medical team who were willing to perform surgery on me at 23 weeks pregnant.
Now that I’m recovering, all I can say is – it was so worth it. I loved every single second of this shoot with this sweet sweet couple, and loved spending the time with them. They are so sweet, so in love, and so fun to be around! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
