Derek and Carris are such a special couple. A few years ago, when Derek graduated college, Luke and I got to photograph his senior portrait session. A few weeks ago, My team got to capture Derek getting on one knee and asking Carris to spend the rest of her life with him. And a few days ago, I got to capture Derek and Carris and how much they just glow when they’re around each other.
The way these two look at each other is so full of love and joy, their smiles when they’re together are so genuine!
Speaking of the glow – the light at Jeffrey Open Space Trail on this day was so glowy and dreamy! This is the exact reason that I love to shoot during golden hour (the last hour of the day before the sun officially sets). The light during golden hour is the dreamiest because it’s so soft and makes the whole photo look incredible!
When planning an engagement session, I always recommend shooting 90 minutes before the sun sets if you have two outfits, or 60 minutes before the sun sets if you have just one. Sun set can vary by location, and really has to do with the time that the sun sets behind the horizon line wherever you are. For example, at the beach, the sun set is right at the time it’s supposed to be. The light even hangs around a little longer and you can shoot past sunset! At places where there are trees, the sun can set behind them even an hour before the actual sunset! I always plan around that so that we can get you the best pictures with the dreamiest and glowiest light.
Derek and Carris, I am SO excited to photograph your wedding day in Arizona! I know you two have such a beautiful future ahead of you. The way you love each other, the way you value family, and the way you enjoy life together is something so sweet. I am so thankful to be working with you two!
